Growing microgreens is simple—but even the easiest gardens come with a few oops moments (looking at you, soggy tray #2!). Here are the most common beginner mistakes and how to fix them, fast.
Mistake #1: Overwatering
What it looks like: Soggy soil, mold, or sad, droopy greens.
Quick Fix: Use a spray bottle and mist lightly—think morning dew, not monsoon. Microgreens hate sitting in water! If you’ve already drowned them…try letting them dry out in a really well-lit area, but, you may have to start over if they are just too far gone!
Mistake #2: Not Enough Light
What it looks like: Pale, leggy, stretched-out greens reaching for the sky.
Quick Fix: Move trays to a bright windowsill or use a simple grow light. More light = stronger, greener greens.

Mistake #3: Overcrowding Seeds
What it looks like: Tangled mess, patchy growth, or slimy patches.
Quick Fix: Sprinkle seeds evenly with a little breathing room. A little space goes a long way!
Mistake #4: Using the Wrong Container
What it looks like: Poor drainage, soggy roots, or stunted growth.
Quick Fix: Use shallow trays with drainage holes. Pro tip: Reuse takeout containers and poke a few holes in the bottom.
Mistake #5: Harvesting Too Late
What it looks like: Yellowing leaves, limp stems, or bitter taste.
Quick Fix: Harvest when your microgreens are about 2 inches tall and the first true leaves appear. Don’t wait too long—they’re best when fresh!

Bonus Tip: Don’t Give Up!
Every tray is a new chance to grow (literally). Even experienced growers get a dud. The best part? Microgreens grow fast, so you can try again next week!
